SLOW FASHION EXCHANGE AT HUMBER

April 10, 2019

On Monday, March 25th, Humber’s Sustainable Fashion Committee, led by Fashion Professor Francesca D’Angelo, kicked off Earth Week at Humber with a Slow Fashion Exchange - a pop-up experience and chat on sustainable fashion. The event organized by Fashion Management degree and graduate certificate students at the Lakeshore campus opened the conversation on the negative environmental impact of the fashion industry, and how to take steps in the right direction to become part of the slow fashion movement.

Campus and community members donated gently-used or new clothing to facilitate an exchange, where attendants purchased items as an environmentally-conscious means of updating their wardrobe. Along with the exchange, the event provided the opportunity for people to share their best-piece-of-clothing story at the Selfie Station and to learn what the slow fashion movement is all about. Adding to the event was a panel discussion from industry experts on sustainability, including representatives from the City of Toronto and clothing brand H&M. The event was concluded with an announcement of integrating courses focused on sustainability into Humber’s Fashion Management Graduate Certificate program for the upcoming academic year.
