Review the host institutions available below and the curriculum of each program of interest to assess which one(s) best fit your Humber degree requirements. If applicable, it is strongly recommended that you choose two or three partner universities. Completed semesters abroad will be accredited as a normal semester based on a 15-credit (hour) semester.
Located in Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is recognized worldwide for its excellence in higher education. A national study has revealed WIT’s new library is one of the best in the country. With more than 200 partners internationally and students studying on campus from over 60 different countries, WIT is truly an international education experience.
Krems enjoys a well-earned reputation as the centre of education in Lower Austria. During the academic year, life in the town is shaped by its 9,000 university- and secondary-school students who can study a multitude of bachelor and master’s degree programs. As a festival town, Krems hosts a wide selection of cultural events drawing thousands of visitors each year.
Kansai Gaidai's two campuses (Nakamiya and Hotani) are located in Hirakata city near Osaka city. Hirakata is also close to Kyoto and Nara, both of which are synonymous with Japan's rich tradition. There are two beautiful campuses and four programs, including the Asian Studies Program, which accommodate international students wishing to pursue Japanese language and Japanese/Asian studies.
Unitec has over 23,000 students participating in 165 programs of study, and students can earn anything from their postgraduate diploma to their doctorate degree at one of the school's three campuses. Students study in historic buildings that were built in the 1850s, and in modern lecture theatres and labs, with courses that range from engineering and trades to architecture, business and design to health, natural sciences and sport.
HFT Stuttgart (Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart) was founded in 1832 and is located in the heart of the state capital. A small publicly-funded university with 2,600 students, 14 bachelor degrees and 13 master’s degrees, they have a strong focus on practical-oriented research, work study opportunities and skills-based learning.
JAMK is located in the city of Jyväskylä in the heart of Finland, just north of Helsinki. It is a school of 8,000 students, and lies surrounded by lakes, ridges and forests. With its multiple fields of study, the school is among the best in Finland. It is one of the country’s most popular universities of applied sciences, and all three of their schools offer both bachelor degrees and master's degrees.
Robert Gordon University (RGU) is a dynamic, modern place to study with an international reputation for providing high quality education from undergraduate through to PhD level. Consistently ranked among the UK's top universities for graduate employment, recent accolades have included: 'Best Modern University in the UK' by The Times Good University Guide 2012; Scottish University of the Year 2011; and, Top Modern University for Research in Scotland.
To be nominated for the Exchange Program, students must be enrolled in a degree program within The Business School. Open the Application Process to view criteria and Steps 1 to 5 for applying.
To be nominated for the Exchange Program, students must be enrolled in a degree program within The Business School, in Good Academic Standing and submit an Application and Letter of Intent. Only completed applications will be considered for interview by the Selection Committee.
Using the Study Plan Table found on Page 2 of the Application Kit, select host institution courses you are interested in taking and their Humber course equivalent. This process will help you assess which institution(s) will provide you with the most transferable credits. Once you have completed this step, make an appointment with your Program Coordinator to discuss your Study Plan. Your Program Coordinator will help you determine if your course selections are transferrable to your Humber degree.
NOTE: Bachelor of Commerce—Fashion Management students who are interested in studying abroad in Semester 5 can only enroll in pre-determined courses at Robert Gordon University in Scotland and are not required to meet with his/her Program Coordinator. Instead, the Study Plan can be brought to the Manager, International Initiatives for review.
As a part of the application, you are required to write a Letter of Intent and submit this along with your Checklist and Application Form. For details on how to write your Letter of Intent, please see Page 4 in your Application Kit.
All applicants are required to be in Good Academic Standing and enrolled in a degree program at the Business School to participate in the Semester Abroad Exchange Program. Applicants must submit a Grade Report from the Student Record System. You can access your Grade Report from MyHumber.
Submit your completed Application, Letter of Intent and Grade Report by mail or in person to Jennifer Wilson-Lee, Manager, International Initiatives, The Business School, H214, Humber College, 3199 Lakeshore Blvd. West, Toronto, ON M8V 1K8 on or before Friday, February 13, 2015.
You will be invited to an interview at the beginning of March 2015. The Selection Committee will have reviewed your Application including your Letter of Intent. Please review your Study Plan and Letter of Intent prior to coming to the interview. You will also be asked how you plan to support your study overseas. All successful candidates nominated for the Exchange Program will receive a Notification of Recommendation at the end of April. This notification will list the host institution you have been recommended to and information regarding next steps which will include:
