At the end of March, The Culinary Federation Toronto branch chefs’ association hosted Humber’s first Humberlicious fundraising event. The dinner and networking event was hosted in the Humber Room at the North campus and inspired a fun and interactive atmosphere for staff and professors, chefs, high school culinary teachers and students; as well as Culinary Federation members and friends.
The event was coordinated to help raise funds to support the next generation of chefs through the annual Humber Culinary Apprentice Bursary. This networking and educational event also connected local Toronto chefs to representatives from DSB SHSM culinary high schools, encouraging students interested in careers in the culinary arts to consider Humber for their postsecondary education and introducing youth to the possibilities within the culinary industry.
“Our Culinary and Baking students had the opportunity to volunteer and work alongside of some of our great Humber Culinary alumni on a 4-course meal and sensory challenge table,” says Shonah Chalmers, Program Coordinator for Culinary Management programs.
The evening included hors d’oeuvres, food stations, a spice and chocolate taste challenge competition, and an assortment of draw prizes, all accompanied by a jazz performance on the keyboard and saxophone from Humber music students.
Industry partners supplied food items for the event and Humber Alumni donated their time to guide students through a night of culinary exploration.
