Following the February visit of Rossie Kadiyska, Fashion Management and Promotions Program Coordinator, to Copenhagen School of Design and Technology, the first Fashion Management postgraduate student Karli Ihasz completed her sustainability internship in Denmark. During her visit, Rossie Kadiyska established contacts with numerous Dutch companies willing to take and mentor our students in fashion sustainability and share best practices with them.
Karli Ihasz shares her experience:
"As someone who is passionate about sustainability in the fashion industry, I have always been determined to work for a company truly dedicated to being a positive influence in the industry and committed to making a change through their ethical, sustainable business practices. I had the chance to work for a company like this during my internship, where I had the opportunity to travel to Copenhagen, Denmark, to work with a sustainable fashion designer in developing her business. I worked with Susanne Guldager, founder of La Femme Rousse, and helped her to develop a strategy for business, design, and communication, as well as a digital marketing strategy to help promote her sustainable fashion business and gain a wider audience. The values that La Femme Rousse was founded on are Sustainability, Quality and Timeless Design, and Craft and Slowness. My job as an intern was to bring these values to life in the ways in which we promoted the business. This was done through creating a website serving as a lead generation tool, online brochure, catalog, and information source for potential customers; starting a blog and writing articles to connect with consumers more directly; setting up her business page on social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest; and consistent brand awareness, reflecting her business values and the principles on which La Femme Rousse was founded.
During my internship, I visited the Copenhagen School of Design and Technology (KEA), and had the opportunity to see all of the amazing sustainability initiatives that were being worked on by students all around the world to help reduce the fashion industry’s carbon footprint. Copenhagen is the hub of sustainability in the fashion industry, as home of the annual Copenhagen Fashion Summit, the world’s leading business event on sustainability in fashion. Convening major fashion industry decision makers, the multi-stakeholder event has become the nexus for agenda-setting discussions on the most critical environmental, social and ethical issues facing our industry and planet. The Summit is organized by Global Fashion Agenda, a leadership forum on fashion sustainability working to mobilize the global fashion system to change the way we produce, market and consume fashion. Working for Susanne was an extremely valuable experience and I am grateful I had the opportunity to help La Femme Rousse in being the next business that does just what the Copenhagen Fashion Summit sets out to do – changing the way the fashion industry operates, and making it a sustainable industry for a world beyond next season."
