HUMBER HOSTS THE 2019 CIFP CASE CHALLENGE

April 9, 2019

On Saturday, March 30th, 2019, Humber College hosted the 2019 CIFP Case Challenge, which is an annual competition run by the Canadian Institute of Financial Planning. In this challenge, students put their technical financial planning skills to the test by completing a case study prepared by the CIFP and presenting it in front of a panel of judges. Eight teams from Centennial, George Brown, Conestoga, Seneca, and Humber participated this year for the Eastern Regional in hopes of moving on to compete against the Western Regional champion at the CIFP National Conference. This conference is being held in Vancouver later this year. The event hosted approximately 45 attendees, including the student teams, their coaches, sponsor representatives, and members of the CIFP.

This event was made possible by Steve Bang, a business professor and Humber’s coach for the competition, along with his two Event Management interns Nicole Nosic and Karan Shah. Nicole and Karan are graduate certificate students in the Event Management program and produced this event as a part of their internship. From start to finish, the event was taken care of through their meticulous planning, which involved managing a team of 13 volunteers from Humber, as well as the details of catering, entertainment, logistics, and more. Their planning began back in November 2018 and they spent the next four months making this event a reality for the CIFP. The work of these three individuals made the Case Challenge a huge success for all the schools who attended and Humber looks forward to hosting the event again in the coming years!
