Fashion Management postgraduate students represented Humber at the annual Canadian Retail Education Association (CREA) Charette at Ryerson and won awards across all the major categories on October 28th - 29th. These awards included best presentation, best response to the brief and best out-of-the-box thinking/creativity.
The CREA Charette is a retail competition organized by the Canadian Retail education association with participation from business students from across Ontario. The Charrette is an intensive, interdisciplinary team learning experience. CREA works with retail industry partners to identify a “real-life” problem scenario, which is revealed to teams on day one before collaborating to design a solution within a specified time limit.
The problem scenario this year dealt with how Miniso Canada could drive consumers into their stores and engage with the brand. Eight student teams were given 24 hours to create and deliver a concept, objective, strategy, tactic, marketing, operational and location plans. Students were able to apply fashion management knowledge and concepts learned in class to real-life management situations. Each group honed their team-working, communication, negotiation, and networking skills.
“This was a practical and amazing learning experience that I would recommend to any student," shared Ella Olladokun, one of Charette winners from Humber. Our students were led by their Program Coordinator, Rossie Kadiyska as well as Professors Vladimira Steffek. Steffek’s recruitment, guidance, support and involvement in the Charette was a major contributor to the teams’ success.
