Program Overview

Humber’s Supply Chain Management graduate certificate program provides you with a solid grounding in both business and global supply chain issues. Major changes in processes and technology have led to a high demand for workers with modern supply chain skills.

You will learn to research and analyze the marketplace; develop demand forecasts; evaluate suppliers’ capabilities to deliver; utilize technology such as Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing (SAP); develop aggregate and master production plans/schedules; and analyze business processes.

You will also learn industry-standard theories, methods and techniques (Six Sigma, Total Quality Management, Just-in-Time, Lean) and how they apply to supply chain management strategies and problem solving.

Humber is a SAP University Alliances member school, ensuring you learn this key supply chain management software.

Upon successful completion of the program, a graduate will:

  1. Examine the connections between strategic objectives, stakeholder expectations, and supply chain design, functions, processes and roles, to guide decision-making, problem-solving and coordination of tasks.
  2. Determine the value added and financial implications of supply chain decisions and design on overall business profitability, efficiency and stakeholder satisfaction.
  3. Ensure supply chain activities and transactions are compliant with relevant legal, regulatory and contractual obligations, and industry and organization standards and policies for quality, health, safety, accountability, social and environmental responsibility.
  4. Use risk mitigation tools and strategies to inform supply chain management decisions.
  5. Contribute to the acquisition and sale of goods, services and materials in accordance with best practices and public and private sector stakeholder expectations across a variety of industries.
  6. Contribute to the strategic planning and scheduling of material requirements, resource allocation and inventory for efficient production and fulfillment of customer orders and returns.
  7. Coordinate the efficient handling and movement of goods, services, materials and related information within and between supply chains.
  8. Contribute to the identification and management of continuous improvements to functions and processes within and between supply chains.
  9. Use available technologies to enhance work performance and support supply chain functions, processes, transactions and communications.
  10. Monitor relevant trends, emerging technologies, and local and global economic, political and environmental issues to enhance work performance and guide management decisions.
  11. Use leadership and communication skills to establish and manage strategic relationships with a diversity of stakeholders and support the achievement of business goals.
  12. Develop and apply ongoing strategies for personal, career and professional development.

Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning and Supply Chain Canada have reached an agreement that will provide an efficient path for graduates of Humber’s full-time, day, Graduate Certificate in Supply Chain Management Program to pursue their Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) designation.

Students in this program use Microsoft applications Excel and MapPoint. We also do on-site visits to many industries to see best practices in supply chain management.

The supply chain sector is expanding rapidly in Canada, and an educated workforce is recognized as vital to every successful company’s strategy.  

Potential career opportunities in this sector include operations planner; purchasing agent; supply chain analyst; business process analyst; and warehouse, transportation and logistics co-ordinator positions in major Canadian companies. Graduates are well-positioned for a progressive career in management.

Whether it’s sourcing materials, manufacturing goods, or the warehousing and distribution of products, more than three quarters of a million Canadians already work in supply chain roles for private companies, governments, charities and other organizations. According to the Careers in Supply Chain website, more than 27,000 supply chain positions in Canada sit unfilled, and another 66,000 openings are anticipated each year for the next five years.

Employers of recent Supply Chain Management graduates include Canadian Tire Corporation, UPS, Xerox, Suncor, Johnson & Johnson, Walmart, Loblaw, Sobeys, Shoppers Drug Mart, Nestlé, SCI, TJX, Sleep Country Canada and a multitude of other smaller organizations.

How To Become An Apprentice

Becoming an Apprentice

Find an employer willing to sponsor you as an apprentice.

Contact the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development to register as an apprentice.

Work with your employer approximately one year before attending Humber.

Domestic Students

Applications to Humber are made through ontariocolleges.ca. Be sure to submit your application by the equal consideration deadline of February 1. You may apply after February 1, however, post-February 1 applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis depending on the availability of the space in the program.

Admission selection is based on the academic criteria indicated. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.

Admission selection is based on the following three requirements:

    To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

    • A bachelor’s degree

    Mature Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

    College Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

    University Transfer Applicants

    An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

  • English Language Proficiency

    All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

  • International Credit Evaluation

    Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.
