Fashion Management
Program Overview
Humber’s Fashion Management graduate certificate program prepares you to work in the dynamic fashion industry and focuses on the management, marketing and sales of fashion apparel and accessories. Courses cover new product development and branding, fashion buying and retailing, multi-channel commerce, international marketing and product management, and entrepreneurship. Visual merchandising skills, combined with colour theory skills and trend forecasting, gives this program a dynamic, hands-on approach to the business side of fashion.
Students in the program will further learn about the rapidly growing promotions side of fashion including courses in integrated marketing communication and social media brand management. Students will learn how to leverage and promote a brand through social media, personal blogs, Instagram, Twitter, online selling and personal website development. In addition, students will be provided with opportunities to learn about the latest fashion industry advancements and developments in fashion technology and sustainability. There is a growing demand for industry professionals with knowledge of sustainable solutions and innovation. Students will apply acquired knowledge and hone skills in real-world cases and scenarios and graduate from the program with tools to lead the industry to positive change.
Courses
At Humber, courses are delivered in a variety of formats:
In-Person - An in-person course is delivered fully on campus.
Online Asynchronous (A) - An online asynchronous course has no fixed class schedule and allows students to engage with the course at different times according to their needs. Faculty provide modules, which are completed independently by the students according to established deadlines.
Online Synchronous (S) - An online synchronous course is delivered fully online and requires faculty and students to participate in real-time according to a fixed schedule. Classes are scheduled for a specific day and time.
Hybrid - A hybrid course is a combination of in-person and online classes and follows a set schedule. Students must be available to attend in-person classes at scheduled times during the semester.
The chart below outlines the delivery options available for each course in this program, by campus. For some academic terms, there may be more than one delivery option available. You’ll be able to select your preferred options when building your course schedule during open enrolment. Preferences for course delivery will be considered on a first come, first served basis. Some Humber programs are also delivered fully online, where all courses are delivered online.
International students: the impact of studying from outside of Canada on Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility differs significantly based on when you start your program. Please review the PGWP eligibility before choosing your program and course delivery.

Work-Integrated Learning
Gain first-hand experience that provides the valuable work experience employers seek. A 160-hour (minimum) may be completed full-time in the third semester.

The Fashion Institute
The Humber Advantage Hands-on, experiential learning opportunities, field trips, industry guest speakers, case competitions and work-related industry training and learning are integral part of the program. Students learn industry content and apply it in relevant industry settings to be better prepared for the jobs and career opportunities of the future.
Fashion Management classes are delivered in Humber’s Fashion Institute. The Fashion Institute is located at Lakeshore Campus and is a hub of activity for fashion students. It is a lively, charismatic place, buzzing with students exchanging ideas, be it in the lounge, computer lab, or anywhere else that inspiration might spark. The street level, store front window facilitates visual merchandising activities. Students pitch ideas for the window display through the fashion photo-styling course. Selected projects get transformed into stunning window displays.
The building comes equipped with mannequins, rolling racks, hanging fixtures, shelving units and all manner of things the students might need to create real-world mock-ups, including a boardroom with a dropped ceiling for hanging merchandise. Students learn to work with a budget to design, source materials, and build their own space.
Association of Fashion Business Students
The Association of Fashion Business Students (AFBS) aims to provide a connective environment that links students with the industry, as well as supports and encourages fashion forward thinking.

Your Career
According to City of Toronto data, the fashion industry employs nearly 50,000 people. Fashion design, wholesaling and retailing have grown dramatically in the last five years with 10,000 fashion-related jobs. There are 4,600 fashion retail firms in Toronto that generate annual sales of $2.6 billion. Sales have grown by 6.4 per cent in the last year. Employment in the wholesale and retail trade grew by 34.5 per cent or 13,000 jobs in the last five years.
Graduates may find employment in companies that develop, manufacture, market, import, wholesale, distribute or retail fashion apparel and accessories. Employment settings include apparel suppliers, wholesale distribution companies, fashion retail companies, importers and logistics firms, marketing divisions within major retail operations and up-and-coming online businesses.
