One of the most exciting parts of the final semester in the Bachelor of Commerce – Marketing program is watching students step beyond the classroom and into real industry practice.

This semester, Marketing students had the opportunity to learn about media strategy, creativity, and AI from award-winning strategists Emily Johnston, Jorge Aguilar, and Taylor Hyde-Whipp at Omnicom Media Group, the largest media services company in the world.

True to an applied learning focus within the program , this instruction was followed by a real-world challenge: students are developing a media strategy for a student-targeted brand, which they will pitch to an Omnicom Media Group panel of Strategists. Nikki Seaton, Director of People Experience, introduced the challenge (called the Perfect Pitch) and encouraged students to think creatively, push beyond traditional approaches, and consider how media can be used in innovative ways.

This experience is particularly valuable because it reflects Omnicom Media Group’s strong commitment to developing young people and supporting emerging professionals. This commitment is evident through Omnicom’s Residency Program, which hires recent graduates and provides structured training and mentorship to help launch successful careers in media. We are also proud to highlight Humber alumna Laura Lopez, who joined the Residency Program in 2025.
