IPG Mediabrands Canada hosted an open house for Marketing Management and Advertising Media Management students, providing an exceptional opportunity to connect, learn, and gain valuable industry insights. By the end of the event, attendees left feeling inspired and motivated to pursue careers with IPG Mediabrands Canada.
Nikki Seaton, Director of People Experience, orchestrated an engaging and informative afternoon. Shelley Smit, CEO, shared her expertise on leadership, the importance of using one’s voice, and IPG’s dedication to investing in its people. Senior team members—many of whom are Humber alumni—offered practical advice on maintaining a positive mindset, active listening, asking thoughtful questions, and embracing opportunities. They also highlighted the role of AI as a tool rather than a replacement and emphasized that effective media strategies go beyond traditional advertising, noting, “You can’t ad-block culture!”
A panel of recent alumni hires, many of whom secured positions through 'The Residency Program'—a common placement opportunity for Humber students—shared their experiences and insights. The event concluded with students meeting the Talent Acquisition Team to discuss effective interview strategies and career preparation.
Key takeaways from the event included the importance of curiosity, seizing opportunities, researching potential employers to demonstrate passion, stepping outside one’s comfort zone, building a strong personal brand, and maintaining professionalism at all times.
Humber extends its heartfelt gratitude to IPG Mediabrands Canada for hosting this impactful event and looks forward to collaborating again with a new group of students!
