Institutional Cook Apprenticeship
Humber is proud to have the highest graduate employment and employer satisfaction rate of the GTA colleges based on Colleges Ontario’s key performance indicators for college graduates in 2022-2023.
Program Overview
Humber’s Institutional Cook Apprenticeship program focuses on large-quantity food production using bulk and nutritional cooking methods. This involves using specialized equipment and following strictly prescribed menus created in advance by dieticians and food service managers.

Longo Faculty of Business has more than 500 industry partners. Partners provide funding for capital projects (labs, etc.), provide internships for students, donate more than $60,000 in awards and scholarships, and employ our students upon graduation.
Working professionals can enroll in this Apprenticeship program and learn new culinary skills, earn a credential and reach higher goals, like earning their Red Seal Certification. A total of $4,000 in government grants are available to each Apprentice. Employers are able to enroll current staff into the program and will be automatically enrolled to receive a $9,700 government grant per Apprentice.

Institutional cooks prepare meals which must meet individual dietary needs and textures, health requirements, religious needs and cultural preferences.
Potential jobs for institutional cooks include working in long-term care facilities, retirement homes, hospitals, daycare centres, school dining areas, correctional facilities and corporate environments.
