Over 200 Hospitality and Tourism Management students from Humber Polytechnic participated in a unique field trip to Woodbine Entertainment on November 22 and 23. The event, organized in collaboration with the Woodbine team, was led by Jorge Soares, Vice President of Stakeholder Relations and Humber graduate, and Kimberley Medeiros, Director of Community, Government Relations and Corporate Citizenship. The immersive experience offered students an in-depth view of the operations at one of Canada's premier entertainment venues.

Guided by key Woodbine staff, including Kathleen Sheppard, Manager of Learning and People Development, and Jaspreet Sidhu, Talent Acquisition Specialist, along with Jorge and Kimberely, the students toured various facilities, such as the Broadcast Studios, Race Office, Paddock, Stella Terrace, Turf Lounge, Woodbine Club, Casino, Theatre, and Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) spaces - providing a comprehensive overview of what makes Woodbine Entertainment a leader in hospitality and tourism. The highlight of the visit was a look at the iconic Woodbine Racetrack, providing an exciting glimpse into live racing.

A panel discussion featuring Humber graduate Mark McKelvie, Senior Communications Manager, included experts such as Andrea Mead, Director of Talent Management, Linda McColl, Food and Beverage Manager, and Kelly Tyson, Director of Marketing, Events and Experience. Their inspiring insights left a lasting impression on the students as they gained valuable insights into the company’s operations, culture, and career opportunities, which enriched their understanding of the industry.

This field trip not only provided students with practical knowledge but also strengthened the relationship between Humber Polytechnic and Woodbine Entertainment. It perfectly aligns with Humber’s Building Brilliance vision, supporting the pillars of reimagining learning, building deeper partnerships, and driving impact.

A special thank you to Woodbine Entertainment for making this enriching experience possible and for their continued support of our student’s educational journey.
