Three students from the Longo Faculty of Business have been living and learning at the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT) in Taiwan since February, marking the first student group to represent Humber Polytechnic at the partner institution since the pandemic.

Hospitality - Hotel and Restaurant Operations Management students Sokyrka Benjamin and Garv Gawri, along with Tourism - Travel Services Management student Hadiya Ibrahim, began their fourth semester abroad earlier this year. By the end of June, they will have completed all required coursework and placement hours toward their final semester.

While at NKUHT, the students immersed themselves in Taiwanese culture through Mandarin language courses, university-led excursions to national parks, and reconnecting with former Humber exchange students.

As their time in Taiwan drew to a close, the students reflected on their experiences:

"I've been having an amazing time here, it’s been a great experience for me. I am really enjoying NKUHT and all my classes. I love that they are very interactive, and they’ve just been super enjoyable so far. Taiwan is very beautiful and it’s such a nice place to be in, it also helps that the weather’s very, very nice!"
- Sokyrka Benjamin

"I think every person that is given the opportunity to have an experience like this should 100% do it as it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and good or bad, you will learn from it."
- Garv Gawri

"I have learned to be much more adaptable, independent, as well as have a broader perspective on the world and myself, because I'm not just learning about Taiwanese people but many others from friends, teachers, classmates, etc."
- Hadiya Ibrahim

This exchange continues to reflect Humber’s commitment to global learning and preparing students with the adaptability, cultural awareness, and hands-on experience needed to thrive in the hospitality and tourism industry.
