Humber College, in cooperation with the Certified Professional Bookkeepers of Canada (CPB Canada), offers the Advanced Bookkeeping program which leads to a career as a professional bookkeeper. This certificate program consists of courses that include both accounting theory and computer applications required to be a bookkeeper. By enrolling in the Advanced Bookkeeping Certificate, you will be aligned with Canada’s largest and fastest-growing certifying body of bookkeepers, CPB Canada. Graduates completing the certificate will be eligible to write CPB Canada's Technician exam and have the opportunity to fast track towards the nationally recognized Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) designation.

With extensive experience in accounting, taxation, and education, I bring knowledge and practical expertise to my role at Humber College's Longo Faculty of Business. I am proficient in Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting, Management Accounting, Taxation, and Audit courses, with a strong grasp of IFRS, ASPE, CAS standards, and ITA rules. My background includes personal and corporate tax preparation, auditing practices, and the use of various accounting software such as Sage 50, QuickBooks, and DT Max. I hold an MBA in Finance and a Professional Accounting Practice certificate from Humber College.
I passed the CPA Common Final Examination (CFE) in May 2023 - Assurance. This accomplishment enables me to share with students a systematic approach to problem-solving, enriched with real-life examples from my career.
Currently, I am working with the Government of Canada, where I am assisting Canadians with tax matters, further enhancing my understanding of public sector tax regulations and client advisory.
In my previous role at H&R Block, I prepared personal tax returns and offered expert advice to clients on tax matters, helping them make informed decisions to maximize tax advantages. Additionally, I have extensive teaching experience at Humber College, where I designed and delivered course material, and guided students with various Accounting, Finance and taxation courses. I also assisted students with accounting and tax software.
My tenure with Public Accounting Firm provided me with hands-on experience in public accounting, where I performed bookkeeping, reconciled accounts, and prepared personal and corporate tax returns.
My commitment to student success is evident in my role as a faculty member at the Longo Faculty of Business, where I ensure students' success in the courses that I teach by offering the best learning experience to the students.
Janice Charko has been a faculty member at Humber College since 1991, specializing in Income Tax, and accounting. She is a FCPA, CFP, ACCA and chartered director. She is a partner in a licensed public accounting firm and has many years of experience in the tax and accounting industry. She was the former chair of CGA Ontario, and was instrumental in the transition from CGA to CPA. She is a panel member for FP Canada, discipline committee.
With over 25 years of experience as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Dorothy has built a robust career exclusively with Moore Canada Corporation. Beginning as an Accounting Clerk, she advanced through roles including Business Analyst at the Corporate Head Office and Senior Accountant in Consolidation. Her journey continued with roles such as Payroll Accountant, Manager of Financial Reporting, and currently Financial Controller. In her current capacity, Dorothy oversees month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting processes, leads budgeting and financial forecasting efforts, and navigates complex technical accounting issues for compliance.
Recently, Moore Canada Corporation DBA R.R. Donnelley was acquired by Data Communication Management Corp., presenting new and exciting accounting challenges for her.
Dorothy's hands-on experience and real-world expertise provide students with invaluable insights into the practical applications of accounting principles and strategies.
Gabor Huve, Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), J.D. (Hun) began his studies in Hungary where he received a Master's degree in Law and Political Science and then continued his education in Canada focusing on accounting and finance to earn his professional accounting designation.
He brings over 25 years of professional experience, working early on in fields including manufacturing, media and telecommunications; as well as in public practice. Gabor’s extensive experience in finance management in health care includes well-renowned organizations such as the University Health Network and Sick Kids Hospital. Most recently, as Senior Finance Manager with nonprofit organizations, namely the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada and the Nature Conservancy of Canada, Gabor managed a professional finance team, collaborating with senior management to complete financial reporting, and operational analysis and prepare for annual audits.
Since 2007, Gabor has also been teaching at the Longo Faculty of Business, where he developed his love of teaching. He considers himself a life-long learner and shares his professional experience while encouraging students to set high expectations for themselves and strive to do better every day.
Rathika Ramendra is a seasoned Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with over 20 years of experience working in a corporate setting. She specializes in financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, and being the finance lead in ERP conversions.
Her professional journey began at Diebold Canada as a Financial Analyst in 2000. Shortly after, she was promoted to Senior Financial Analyst. In 2006, she transitioned to Martin Brower where she dedicated 12 years of her career serving in various roles including Supervisor of Financial Reporting and Finance Manager. Currently, she is a Regional Controller at Spicers Canada.
Academically, Rathika has been a part of the teaching faculty at Humber College since 2010. In Rathika’s classroom, she leverages her extensive industry experience to teach fundamental accounting and financial principles with real-life examples. Her flexible teaching style fosters an inclusive environment for all types of learners.
Mr. Deepak Sharma is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and holds MBA in International Business from Athabasca University.
Mr. Sharma has been a dedicated part-time Professor of Accounting at The Business School of Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning for over 10 years. With a robust professional and academic career spanning more than 20 years, Mr. Sharma brings a wealth of experience in various aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and taxation.
Throughout his career, Mr. Sharma has worked in diverse roles within the accounting industry, gaining extensive knowledge and expertise that he now imparts to his students. His real-world experience in accounting and finance enriches his teaching, providing students with practical insights and applications of theoretical concepts.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Sharma leads a successful professional practice, offering accounting and tax services to small businesses. His industry experience allows him to stay current with the latest developments in accounting standards and tax regulations, which he incorporates into his curriculum. Mr. Sharma is also a lead author of accounting textbook i.e. Learning Sage 50 : A Modern Approach.
Mr. Sharma is committed to the academic and professional growth of his students. He teaches a range of various accounting and tax courses.
Mr. Sharma is also committed to community service and is an acting Board member in various NFPOs. In addition, he conducts various workshops on period basis for local businesses and newcomers to Canada to improve their financial literacy.
When not teaching or managing his practice, Mr. Sharma enjoys reading, listening to music and walking in nature. In addition, I love traveling and exploring the world with my lifetime partner, my wife.
Jeff brings over 30 years of teaching College computer applications experience to Humber. Starting in the days of DOS, Lotus 1-2-3 and WordPerfect, to Microsoft 365 and Power BI, while also teaching financial math courses.
Jeff has also held a programming role for three years with the Ontario Ministry of Housing updating reports and applications leading up to and preparing for the Y2K transition. Before this, Jeff programmed reports for dozens of clients of an interactive media-based marketing company in Toronto.
Jeff holds an M.B.A. from the University of Windsor, and the PMP designation from the Project Management Institute.
