TAIWANderful

On November 24th, seven NKUHT students presented TAIWANderful, their Event Planning course project to the Humber community at the North campus during International Education Week 2022.

The students are from the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality & Tourism (NKUHT) and are attending Humber for a one-year exchange program. The students applied the theory and techniques learned in class to their design project including managing and event execution.

As part of the project, the students designed an event poster, created a Facebook page and Instagram account as part of their marketing materials and sent out invitations to guests. The guest list included Director General Jin-Ling Chen, along with her colleagues, Director Vivian Lee and Assistant Director Claire Chiu from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Toronto.

The event successfully showcased Taiwan’s culture through decorations, graphics of famous temples and natural history spots, games (dice and mahjong) and food tasting. Everyone in attendance took many photos, ate and networked with the students. The most popular items included the traditional Taiwanese popcorn chicken and milk bubble tea. Under the guidance of Chef Trevor Meynart, the students practiced preparing the dishes prior to the event and were in the Humber Kitchen at 7:00 AM to start prepping.

A special thanks to Tracey Grieveson for sharing her expertise and mentorship during the planning and execution of TAIWANderful.

The positive feedback and smiles on the students' faces are a reminder that hard work pays off.
