HLOs:
The 2024–2025 academic year marked another successful chapter in the Longo Faculty of Business’s ongoing partnership with the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT) in Taiwan.
This year, Humber welcomed two Culinary Management students in the Fall term and, for the first time, NKUHT students enrolled in the Event Management and Recreation and Leisure Services programs, beginning their studies in January. The expansion into new program areas reflects the evolving strength and scope of the international collaboration.
Throughout the year, students participated in a wide range of cultural and community-building experiences, including celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Lunar New Year, as well as ice skating, downhill skiing, and attending a performance of Come From Away at the theatre. These activities formed a well-rounded immersion into Canadian life and culture.
Event Management student Pei-Yu (Joanna) Lin reflected on the personal and professional impact of the exchange:
"I realized that I’m genuinely curious about different cultures and enjoy connecting with people from diverse backgrounds. Being abroad helped me become more open-minded. I learned to listen, observe, and appreciate differences without judgment, which I think is an important skill both personally and professionally."
Looking ahead, three NKUHT students will complete their Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) placements this summer at hotels in Alberta and British Columbia, including the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Pan Pacific Whistler, and Fairmont Chateau Whistler. These placements offer a valuable opportunity for students to apply their classroom learning in real-world hospitality settings.
The 2025–2026 academic year will see continued growth in the partnership. The Longo Faculty of Business is set to welcome eight new NKUHT students across the Culinary Management, Hospitality – Hotel and Restaurant Operations Management, and Tourism – Travel Services Management programs. Their academic journey will begin with a tailored orientation and language program designed to support a smooth transition and a successful year ahead.
