Graduate Collaborates with Ignite to Create an HR Club

Human Resources Management alumnus Alejandro Santa Cruz took the initiative to create Humber's very first HR Club. Alejandro came to Humber as an international student and leveraged every opportunity to engage and collaborate with his peers in order to ease the learning curve and transition into the Canadian workplace. Alejandro recently handed over the club to the current students under the leadership of Adna Abdulkadir.

The HR Club is new from Ignite. Its objective is to promote activities that enhance practical knowledge in HR for students and strengthen relationships with graduates and employers. To develop practical knowledge in HR, the club aims to work on three fronts - workshops, transferable skills, and networking opportunities. A skill gap analysis will take place twice a year to identify the best workshops suited for students. Additionally, the students will develop transferable skills such as time management, leadership, and teamwork through organizing events. Other specific activities, such as LinkedIn portrait photoshoots, will also take place during the year.

Currently, two events are being planned to strengthen relationships with employers and alumni. One of the events is a mock interview, where recruiters and hiring managers will perform simulations of job interviews to prepare students for when they begin to apply for co-op and job positions.

The club aims to organize a yearly networking event where industry professionals, alumni, and students can interact to promote connections between potential employers and students.

If you would like to be part of these activities and invest in your professional development as a Humber student, join the HR Club by completing the registration form below.
