From Humber to Pro Hockey: Graduate Scores Big in the Sports Industry

Humber two-time graduate David Minor always knew his future was in the sports industry. Since 2018, David has immersed himself in various volunteer and internship roles with prominent sports teams and organizations, including the Canadian Women’s Hockey League’s Toronto Furies, Canlan Sports, the Toronto Rock Lacrosse Club, the Toronto Blue Jays, and Good Times Running—an organization that hosts and sponsors running events.

With a passion for all things sports, David enrolled in the Sport Management program, where he graduated with honours in 2021. Eager to deepen his business acumen, he continued his studies in the Management Studies program, graduating with honours again in 2023.

During his degree, David served as President of Humber’s chapter of ACE (Achieve, Connect, Empower), a student business case competition club. Under his leadership, the team captured first place in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing category at the 2023 ACE Nationals Championship.

Shortly after graduation—and just in time for the inaugural 2024 season of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL)—David landed a role as Account Manager, Ticket Sales and Service with the Toronto entry in the league, now officially known as the Toronto Sceptres.

David describes the Sceptres as an incredible organization and is proud to be part of their journey as they gear up for their second consecutive playoff run and a shot at the league’s top honour—the Walter Cup.

Congratulations, David—and Go Sceptres!
