Clean Beauty Meets Classroom Innovation

In February, students in the Fundamentals of Marketing course from the Marketing Management graduate certificate program had the opportunity to create a new product proposal for Tara Miller, Founder and Owner of Toronto's Health Hut retail store and clean beauty brand. Following the receipt of Tara's video brief, students went to work, applying their knowledge of Product Development to create a proposal for a real business.

To prepare for the assignment, students participated in a research tutorial led by Lakeshore Business Librarian, Adam Weissengruber. With the knowledge gained in the tutorial, students applied their research skills, examining industry and consumer reports on the clean beauty industry to help inform the product ideation phase.

Inspired by their research insights and brimming with ideas, students worked in groups to develop a new product concept and visual mock-up using their own artistic skills or AI image generation tools.

Finally, each group evaluated their idea through concept testing with the Health Hut target market where valuable feedback was gathered to assess the product viability and test their assumptions. The final result was a professionally crafted, insight-driven product proposal that impressed the Health Hut team.

In an increasingly competitive job market, such hands-on projects grounded in real-world business challenges give Humber students a distinct edge with future employers.
