Human Resources Management students Jacquline Raja and Om Darshan Patil participated as panelists in Humber Polytechnic’s Teaching Excellence Program (TEP). This initiative brought together new faculty and current students to foster open dialogue around the evolving student experience and the future of teaching and learning at Humber. The panel was moderated by Professor Cheryl Francis Nurse, the lead facilitator of the Teaching Excellence Program (TEP).
Jacquline and Om, along with other student panelists, represented the students’ voice with thoughtfulness and clarity, engaging in meaningful conversations with faculty on topics such as why students choose Humber, the challenges they face, and the qualities that define impactful educators. A key area of focus was the growing presence of AI in education and how faculty can support its ethical and effective use in the classroom.
While there was initial curiosity about how open the new faculty would be to engage with students regarding their feedback, the experience proved to be both inspiring and encouraging. Faculty members demonstrated a sincere interest in understanding the students’ perspective, asking insightful follow-up questions, and showing a clear commitment to continuous improvement and student success.
What stood out most was the mutual respect and shared dedication to enhancing the learning experience. This exchange affirmed the importance of collaboration between students and educators in shaping a responsive, inclusive, and future-focused academic environment.
Jacquline and Om expressed pride in contributing to such a forward-thinking initiative and look forward to seeing how their insights help further enrich Humber’s student-centered approach to teaching excellence.
