Under the mentorship of Humber alumnus and Senior Manager of Asset Management at InnVest Hotels, David Butler, fifty-five Hospitality and Tourism Operations Management students in the HTOM 5503: Strategic Tourism and Hospitality Business Planning course worked in groups on a capstone project focusing on the deployment of robotics in hospitality.

Students formulated recommendations through their research, including interviews with David Butler and InnVest Hotels’ CIO McLean Xavier, alongside a site visit to observe the use of robotics at theHoliday Inn Express at Lombard Street in downtown Toronto. These insights covered areas such as identifying suitable segments of the guest journey that were more appropriate for robotic services, determining the most suitable hotel tiers for robotics, and outlining the steps a hotel ownership group should take to ensure successful implementation and scaling of robotics.

The top performing groups had the opportunity to present their projects in person to David Butler and Hospitality and Tourism Operations Management Program Co-ordinator, Kristy Adams, at the International Graduate School (IGS).
