On November 8, a group of Hospitality and Tourism Operations Management students had the opportunity to volunteer at the 11th-annual Greater Toronto Hotel Association (GTHA) Spirit Awards, held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. This celebrated event honours the dedication and excellence of frontline hotel professionals across 19 categories, including administration, security, culinary, and housekeeping.

With over 800 attendees and 355 nominees honoured, the Spirit Awards luncheon showcased frontline hotel staff across 19 categories, including administration, security, culinary, and housekeeping. A highlight of this year’s event was the introduction of the Rising Star award, designed to recognize promising new talent entering the industry. The awards offered an opportunity for Humber students to witness the best in hospitality, while also gaining invaluable hands-on experience in event operations.

Hospitality and Tourism Operations Management Program Coordinator Kristy Adams, served on the judging committee, reinforcing Humber's close ties to the industry and its commitment to excellence in education and mentorship.

Student volunteers Mohit Bhasin, Conroy Castelino, Jason Carbon, Krishna Joshi, Janika Llegado, and Mahi Patel played key roles in ensuring the event's success. They also benefited from networking with hospitality professionals, gaining practical insights that will serve them well in their future careers.

A special thanks to GTHA leaders, including Sara Anghel, President and CEO; Kelly Harris, Director of Marketing and Stakeholder Relations; and Marielena Santin, Executive and Events Assistant, for offering this exceptional learning opportunity to Humber’s students.
