Redefining Hospitality: Students Propose Solutions for Industry Revival

In the wake of the pandemic, the hospitality industry, among the hardest-hit sectors, has been compelled to swiftly adapt to the evolving landscape as business activity picks up pace. Amidst soaring expectations from returning guests, hotel operators are investing in their establishments, with Longo Faculty of Business industry partner, Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Toronto International Airport, standing as a prime example of this resurgence.

Presented with a current case from their Food and Beverage Operations course, Hospitality – Hotel and Restaurant Operations Management students dedicated their final semester to developing innovative strategies over four months. Their goal was to boost revenue in a competitive market, unique in its demands due to the airport location.

Working in dedicated groups, these students applied strategic business models, coupled with research, critical analysis, and teamwork skills. This effort culminated in a set of feasible solutions and practical implementation plans that directly addressed real-life scenarios faced by industry partners.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Sheraton Gateway Hotel for their collaboration, acknowledging the valuable contributions made by key representatives, including Lauren Massie, Director of Human Resources; Philippa Akyeampong, Director of Operations; Jaideep Singh, Director of Food and Beverage; and Andrew La Port, Restaurant Manager.
