Two standout students demonstrated their expertise at the 2024 Skills Ontario Restaurant Service Post-Secondary Competition. Held annually, this prestigious event highlights the proficiency and dedication of students pursuing careers in the hospitality industry, offering them a platform to demonstrate their skills in a competitive environment.
The competition featured a series of rigorous challenges designed to test the students' knowledge, precision, and creativity in restaurant service. Participants were judged on various criteria, including table setting, order taking, food and beverage service, and overall professionalism. Humber representatives, Amirali Tehranchi and Jerwin-Ryan Tipay, both second-semester Hospitality – Hotel & Restaurant Operations Management students, stood out with their exceptional attention to detail and exemplary customer service skills.
Amirali and Jerwin’s preparation involved months of intense training, guided by their dedicated instructor and coach, Graidhne Lelieveld-Amiro. They practiced various scenarios, refined their techniques, and honed their ability to perform under pressure. Their hard work paid off as they impressed the judges with their seamless execution and poise.
Competing in the Skills Ontario competition provided Amirali and Jerwin with invaluable experience and exposure. It allowed them to apply their classroom learning in real-world situations, enhancing their confidence and competence. The event also offered excellent networking opportunities, connecting them with industry professionals and potential employers.
