Program Overview

The Global Business Management Ontario Graduate Certificate program allows you to prepare for a wide variety of business management careers and gives you the time to decide which is best for you. No business experience, no prerequisite courses required – just your bachelor’s degree and the desire to find your place in the world of business management.

In your first year, the core curriculum covers the major functional areas of business and develops the qualities that every business wants in their managers: leadership, communications, creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, strategic planning and much more.

For your second year, you choose one of nine specialization streams to suit your individual needs and preferences. These streams include:

  • Managerial Accounting Finance (ACCT 5507) and Fundamentals of Marketing (MKTG 5007) are delivered online.

Upon successful completion of the program, a graduate will:

  1. Collect, process and interpret data used to support international business.

  2. Develop, execute and analyze the results of a comprehensive global business plan which includes complete marketing, operations, financial and human resources strategies and tactics, taking into account the impact of various economic, legal, cultural, geographical, and political situations on international business.

  3. Conduct business with diverse populations using culturally appropriate methods in compliance with relevant national and international law, legislation, policies, and regulations.

  4. Assist in the importing and exporting functions of a business.

  5. Plan, direct, execute and evaluate individual and team projects.

  6. Implement strategies utilizing domestic and foreign government programs, policies, and agencies which facilitate international trade.

  7. Apply financial knowledge and skill to the operation of an international business.

  8. Apply leadership and teamwork skills establishing and maintaining working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, clients, customers and consumers.

  9. Apply quality control and assurance programs to sourcing and supplying.

  10. Apply the principles of business ethics and international corporate responsibility.

  11. Develop new products and services consistent with evolving market needs.

  12. Evaluate the viability of marketing a product or service in an international market or markets.

  13. Develop personal professional development strategies and plans to enhance leadership and management skills.

Work Placement

There is a work placement, aligned with your specialized stream choice (320 hours minimum) in the fourth semester, designed to give you the hands-on, practical work experience that employers are looking for.

For maximum Specialization Stream choice, students should plan to start semester 3 in the fall term. Specialization Stream choice is limited if semester 3 is started in the winter or summer terms. Semesters 3 and 4 must be taken in consecutive terms.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet all the requirements below in order to meet minimum program eligibility. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of admission. Admission decisions will be available via MyHumber, or by email and mail. Admission decisions will not be released by phone.

Admission selection is based on the following 3 requirements:

  • Academic

    To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

    • A bachelor’s degree

    Mature Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

    College Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

    University Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

  • English Language Proficiency

    All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

  • International Credit Evaluation

    Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a WES or ICAS evaluation.

PATHWAYS OUT TO ANOTHER PROGRAM:

TO A PARTNER INSTITUTION

Master of Science in Organizational Leadership

Students who possess a Bachelor's degree and who have successfully completed one of Humber's designate Ontario Graduate Certificate programs will be able to transfer up to fifteen credits towards Northwood University's Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) degree.  Transfer students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (74% - 76%) or above or the equivalent thereof, for regular admission. Official Transcripts must be submitted in English or the original official transcript must be accompanied by a certified English translation. Students must meet all other undergraduate and graduate admission requirements which also includes TOEFL scores or IELTS scores or other evidence of English Proficiency for regular admission unless they have validation from high schools or International schools where they conducted all coursework in English.

MSc International Business

Humber and Robert Gordon University (RGU) have entered into an agreement where graduates of Humber's Global Business Management Graduate Certificate may receive advanced entry (at the Postgraduate Diploma stage) to RGU's MSc International Business or MSc Management programs.  Graduates must have:

Master of Applied Management

Graduates of the Ontario Graduate Certificate from Humber College are eligible to enroll in the Master of Applied Management at Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) in New Zealand. Students who have met the following criterial will be eligible to enter into the final 75 credits of the EIT Master of Applied Management program:

  1. Successful completion of the Humber Ontario Graduate Certificate in (A) Entrepreneurial Enterprise, Business Management, (B) Human Resources Management, (C) Global Business Management, (D) Marketing Management, (E) Project Management, (F) Supply Chain Management, (G) Hospitality and Tourism Operations Management, (H) Sport Business Management, (I) Event Management, or (J) Music Business;
  2. Successful completion of an approved research methods course from Humber; and,
  3. Achievement of the NZQA minimum English proficiency standards for a degree program by completing any Ontario Graduate Certificate.

To complete the EIT Master of Applied Management, graduates of the Humber’s Ontario Graduate Certificates listed above require 75 credits at NZQF Levels 8 and 9 with a minimum of 45 credits at NZQF Level 9.

The EIT Master of Applied Management is a term-based program with four terms per year; each term consists of nine teaching weeks and a term break.

All Humber graduates articulating through this pathway will be provided with academic guidance by the EIT Master of Applied Management (180) Programme Coordinator in regards to EIT’s supervision capability at the time of student application.

Graduates of Ontario Graduate Certificate from Humber College who enroll at EIT will enroll as international students and will have the rights and obligations of international students.

MBA: International Business Management

Humber and JAMK University of Applied Sciences have established a transfer pathway agreement allowing Humber graduates holding an Ontario Graduate Certificate to complete their MBA: International Business Management (90 ECTS) in Finland in just two semesters. You can choose if you wish to study both semesters on campus or alternatively just one semester after which you complete the thesis by distance learning from anywhere in the world. Humber’s Ontario Graduate Certificate is equivalent to one semester (30 ECTS) of studies at JAMK.

To be eligible to apply you need to have a relevant bachelor’s degree and minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience after the bachelor’s degree, plus successful completion of one of the following Humber Ontario Graduate Certificates:

  • Project Management
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Entrepreneurial Enterprise, Business Management
  • Event Management
  • Global Business Management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Marketing Management

The tuition fee is 9,000€/year (two semesters). In the first year the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee for all students. Thus, the tuition fee for the first year is 4,500€ - the length of time it should take to complete the degree requirements. The average monthly living costs are between 750 and 1,200 Euros, depending on the student's individual needs and habits.

Master of Business Administration

Humber and the University of Incarnate Word (UIW) have entered into an agreement to facilitate the transfer of students from select graduate certificate programs:

  • Global Business Management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Public Relations
  • International Development

for a block transfer of six (6) credit hours into UIW's Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.  Students will be required to complete 24 credits to earn the degree.  Applicants may have the option to apply for a General MBA or a MBA with a specific concentration in Finance or Marketing.

Applicants will be considered for acceptance into the MBA based on requirements as set forth in the UIW Graduate Bulletin for international students including:

  • successful completion of one of the above graduate certificate programs with a GPA of 70% or higher;
  • submission of an official Humber transcript;
  • submission of proof of completion of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university.

Master of Business Administration

Humber and Centenary University have entered into an agreement to facilitate the transfer of Humber graduates with appropriate prerequisite qualifications and grades for advanced standing into Centenary University.  

Graduates with a GPA of 3.0 or 75% may receive up to 6 credits towards Centenary's Masters of Business Adminstration (MBA) program.  Thirty-three (33) remaining credits may be required for program completion.  Final advanced standing granted to an applicant requires an assessment of transcripts and electives taken.

Humber applicants are required to submit the following to Centenary:

  • a completed application form (with essay where applicable) along with the application fee
  • official Humber transcript sent directly to Centenary from Humber
  • verification of high school graduation
  • Letter of Recommendation from a Humber Program Coordinator, specifying why the student is a good candidate for the program.

How to Apply

Applications to Humber are made through ontariocolleges.ca. Be sure to submit your application by the equal consideration deadline of February 1. You may apply after February 1, however, post-February 1 applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis depending on the availability of the space in the program.
