HLOs:
Humber Downtown's Global Business Management and other postgraduate students had the opportunity to attend and volunteer at the Empire Club of Canada where Prem Watsa, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Fairfax Financial Holdings, was honoured with the 2024 Nation Builder Award. Held at the Fairmont Royal York in downtown Toronto, the event offered students a unique opportunity to engage with industry leaders, gain insights from inspiring speeches, and network with professionals across various sectors.
The evening celebrated the extraordinary achievements of Prem Watsa, whose journey from a newcomer to Canada to the helm of Fairfax Financial Holdings—a global insurance giant with a market capitalization exceeding $40 billion—served as a powerful inspiration. Prem's story of resilience, dedication to excellence, and unwavering integrity resonated deeply with attendees. Beyond his business success, Prem's philanthropic efforts, particularly in education and healthcare, have made a significant impact across Canada, supporting institutions such as SickKids Hospital, the Royal Ontario Museum, St. Paul’s Anglican Church and many educational institutions.
For Humber students, the event was more than a celebration of Prem's accomplishments—it was a testament to their potential. Their active participation and volunteer contributions were highly commended, leaving them inspired and motivated to pursue their professional aspirations.
Accompanied by John Moscardelli and Samantha Jones, Program Coordinators for the Global Business Management program, the students gained invaluable exposure to the world of business leadership and philanthropy.
This opportunity not only highlighted the achievements of a Canadian business icon but also showcased the bright future ahead for Humber’s aspiring professionals.
