The Fashion Institute unveiled its standout event of the Fall season, the 'Fashion Through Paper' exhibit, spotlighting the exceptional handiwork of a talented Fashion Management student. This collection, an epitome of creativity, emerged from the diligent efforts of students guided by Professor Julie Savile and sponsored by the Humber Community Development Fund.

Under the mentorship of Sigrid Blohm from the Japanese Paper Company, the students, including Jasmine Kaur, Yashi Timbadia, Tsz Yan Wang, Mengzhou He, Hoi Ching Yim, and Ching Tung Chor, delved into the world of Japanese paper, exploring its properties and techniques. Jasmine Kaur, particularly drawn to the fusion of fashion and Japanese paper, crafted a stunning capsule collection. Supervised by Program Co-ordinator Rossie Kadiyska, Jasmine's designs blend ancient Indian painting techniques with sustainable Japanese paper materials, resulting in nine distinctive looks.

Supported by the Center for Entrepreneurship (CfE), Jasmine's innovative collection challenges conventions, showcasing the boundless potential of paper as a medium in fashion. The exhibit, curated by Fashion Arts and Business students, Manmeet Kaur Sandhu and Ekta Ekta, drew over two hundred visitors in its initial hours, underscoring the profound interest post-pandemic audiences have in such creative showcases.

Visitors, including Humber faculty, staff, and representatives from the Japanese Paper Company, marvelled at the craftsmanship and learned about paper varieties and crafting techniques. The exhibit remains open until mid-February at the Fashion Institute, offering a glimpse into the innovative fusion of fashion and sustainable materials.

The success of this event wouldn't have been possible without the support of Senior Dean Alvina Cassiani, Associate Dean Bruce Sinclair, the CfE, and the Humber Community Development Fund. Thank you to Professor Julie Savile and Program Co-ordinator Rossie Kadiyska for their guidance and leadership in nurturing student talent.
