By: Josh Singh, Fashion Management Graduate Certificate student

On September 28th, Humber Fashion students volunteered to support the Arthritis Society Canada at the second annual 'Fashion on Fire' event in Toronto.

The event, graced by 350 guests, received sponsorship from well-established companies such as Marcatus QED, Rich Folty Real Estate, and Stephen Thomas Ltd, showcasing a harmonious fusion of fashion and philanthropy.

'Fashion on Fire' was featured on CTV’s The Marilyn Denis Show, and showcased apparel from Canadian designers like TwinfishLux, House of Dwir, and Gotstyle Men. Prominent figures from Toronto's corporate and fashion scenes were at the event, and CTV's Style Expert Mana Mansour was the emcee. The fashion show displayed clothes designed to prioritize the comfort of individuals with arthritis, using lightweight fabrics and user-friendly zippers instead of buttons for easy wear. At the finale, reputable Canadian fashion designer David Dixon introduced his new arthritis-friendly capsule collection.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, the event underscored experiential learning for the participating students, providing them with opportunities to apply organizational, networking, and team management skills. Moreover, the fundraiser stood as a testament to the powerful collaboration between the fashion industry and the Arthritis Society Canada.

The Arthritis Society Canada is an organization with a profound impact, reaching over 2.5 million Canadians, dedicating $5.3 million to research and directly supporting 65,731 individuals through education and information programs.

The event organizers commended the students for their dedication and valuable contributions. Reflecting on the experience, a volunteer shared, “This all felt like a dream! From the event space to the garments, everything was so beautiful!”

This event stands as a prime example of the vibrant opportunities that thrive within Humber Fashion.
