Rossie Kadiyska, Program Coordinator and professor of the Fashion Management graduate certificate program, was featured in The Canadian Press and Financial Post articles discussing the evolving role of Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) in the fashion industry.
In her commentary to the Canadian Press, Rossie emphasized HBC’s longstanding influence on Canada’s fashion community, noting that many industry professionals can trace a career connection to the retailer—whether as employees, vendors, or customers inspired by its collections. She highlighted the company’s role in providing valuable internships and entry-level positions that have helped students and alumni gain hands-on experience in key areas such as copyright, merchandising, and design.
“We had quite a few students of ours that went to their flagship brands, and they worked as designers, even for their (2010 Vancouver) Olympic line,” Kadiyska recalled.
As Hudson’s Bay Company faces a shifting retail landscape, its legacy remains deeply woven into Canada’s fashion industry. For countless business professionals, it has been more than just a retailer—it has served as a launchpad for careers and a showcase for homegrown talent.
Rossie Kadiyska was also quoted in a Financial Post article examining how Hudson’s Bay is adapting to today’s competitive and rapidly changing retail environment. In the piece, she spoke to the importance of brand trust, sustainability, and staying relevant—critical topics Humber students engage with in the classroom.
“The iconic Canadian brand holds a unique position in the market, but to thrive, it must evolve in step with shifting consumer expectations,” she explained.
By connecting classroom learning with real-world industry developments, faculty like Rossie ensure that students are not only prepared to enter the workforce but to lead it. Whether analyzing the trajectory of iconic brands like Hudson’s Bay or forecasting trends in sustainability and consumer behaviour, Humber’s approach keeps students at the forefront of an ever-changing marketplace.
