Business Chef Places First in Global Competition with Plant-Based Dish

Culinary Professor and Chef, Shonah Chalmers was recently announced the winner for her vegan dish at the Walnuts@Work competition held live on December 29th 2020.

The live virtual cooking competition was hosted by California Walnuts in partnership with Flavor & The Menu Magazine and included some of today’s most innovative chefs from around the world engaging in pan-to-pan combat. The Chef vs. Chef plate-off exclusively featured plant-based recipes made with California walnuts.

With over two hundred entries from across the globe, ten finalists were selected in October by a judging panel of Level A Certified Worldchefs to cook from their homes. Of the ten finalists, three of the top competitors were decided by virtual viewers via an interactive voting system and included:

  • First Place - Chef Shonah Chalmers (Canada)
  • Second Place - Chef Silje (Norway)
  • Third Place - Chef Carlos (Spain)

The use of walnuts in Chef Chalmer's dish of roasted squash and California walnut filled beet tortellini with sautéed winter greens and thyme-infused walnut milk bechamel sauce impressed both the judges and viewers alike.

Congratulations on your well-deserved win!
