From Student to Industry Leader: A Golf Coach’s Path to Success

Chris McClure, a 28-year-old Professional Golf Management (PGM) - Business Administration graduate, is making waves in the golf industry as the founder of MSD Performance Golf, a private competitive golf coaching business based in Oakville, Ontario. Specializing in coaching junior players aspiring to play National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) golf, current NCAA athletes, and amateur competitors, Chris has established himself as a leading figure in the sport.

Chris's journey in golf began in 2011 at Dragonfly Golf Links in Renfrew, Ontario, where he worked in golf services. Over the years, he gained valuable experience at Renfrew Golf Club and Whitetail Golf Club, while also coaching lessons and junior camps during high school and early college. In 2014, he enrolled in Humber’s PGM program, where he honed his skills in the on-campus Golf Lab under the guidance of instructors Bob Beauchemin and Nick Trichilo.

After graduating in 2017, Chris took on the role of Assistant Golf Professional at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club, where he balanced operational duties with coaching. By 2018, he transitioned to full-time coaching, working at the Glen Abbey Performance Academy and Rattlesnake Point GC. During this time, he expanded his expertise by shadowing prominent coaches and completing additional training.

In 2020, Chris launched his own brand, McClure Swing Design, and began operating independently. By 2023, he opened a 1,000-square-foot Trackman Studio in Oakville and rebranded his business as MSD Performance Golf. He also founded Team MSD, a private U19 and U25 competitive team, providing tournament support with the help of sponsors like Armour Wealth Management and Titleist Canada.

With over 10,000 private lessons taught in his 11-year career, Chris is believed to be the youngest coach in Canada to achieve this milestone. He has also mentored fellow PGM graduates, contributing to the growth of the golf industry.

Looking ahead, Chris plans to expand Team MSD’s presence at provincial and national events while helping more juniors achieve their collegiate golf aspirations.
