For many students, Toronto’s vibrant nightlife and newfound freedom can be distracting. But for Vraj Sheth, an Advertising–Media Management student, staying focused on his goals has always been his top priority. Moving from India to study at Humber Polytechnic, Vraj sought out a like-minded friend group that shared his values, helping him stay on track and achieve his aspirations.

Vraj attributes his success to a combination of focus, networking, and a willingness to learn from both feedback and mistakes. Networking comes naturally to him—often without him even realizing it. Through volunteering at Humber’s Open Houses and participating in events at the Toronto Public Library (TPL), Vraj connected with a patron who was impressed by his positive attitude. That conversation led to a paid placement opportunity with Groupe Touchette, which has since become his part-time job while he completes his second program.

Over time, Vraj has learned to view feedback as an opportunity for growth rather than criticism. He also observes and learns from the mistakes of others, allowing him to avoid similar missteps—a mindset he believes supports both his professional growth and mental well-being.

To maintain a balance between school, work, and life, Vraj prioritizes his spiritual practice, stays active at the gym, and indulges his love for food by exploring Toronto’s diverse culinary scene.

His advice for fellow students is simple yet powerful: “Stay focused on your professional life and take advantage of opportunities that come your way… just say YES!”
