The Story of Devotion Behind The Franca Giacomelli Scholarship for Dedication, Achievement and Service

After 42 years of teaching, mentoring and supporting more than 10,000 students, long-time faculty member Franca Giacomelli is retiring.

As an instructor and Program Coordinator in the Business Administration Co-op and Business Administration Advanced Diploma programs for the Longo Faculty of Business, Franca has helped place students in their co-op assignments as well as helping them secure full-time employment upon graduation.

During her tenure at Humber, Franca served on countless committees, including Chair of the Academic Council and Faculty Member on the Board of Governors. She also frequently represented Humber College at national and international conferences. Through her involvement, Franca helped shape the Longo Faculty of Business into what it is today.

In honour of Franca’s retirement and in recognition of her dedication to students, Franca’s family has established a scholarship in her name. Her true passion is and always has been teaching. Her dedication to her students always went above and beyond her duties. With these factors in mind, the scholarship will be awarded to an individual who demonstrates many of Franca’s traits through leadership, volunteerism, and helping to create a sense of community.

The Franca Giacomelli Scholarship for Dedication, Achievement and Service will be presented to a student in their final semester of study in the Business Administration programs who maintains a high academic standing; is an active participant in student committees, events, or competitions; and who demonstrates leadership potential through their contributions to the classroom, the Humber community or their community at large.

Franca’s dedication to Humber students goes beyond her work in the classroom and with industry. Since 1994, she has provided students within the Longo Faculty of Business with financial assistance through the David Haisell Award and the Giacomelli Family Scholarship, ensuring students are able to achieve their academic goals. In recognition of the tremendous generosity and support Franca has demonstrated through these two awards, Franca has been awarded the Humber College Medal of Gratitude.

Congratulations, and our sincerest gratitude to you Franca!
