1. Which scholarship did you receive, and what does it mean to you?

I am honoured to be the recipient of the Frank Franklin Scholarship. Moving far away from home and going back to school wasn’t an easy journey. But receiving this scholarship reminded me that hard work and perseverance will always be rewarded.

2. What was your initial reaction when you found out you’d been awarded the scholarship?

When I received the news about the scholarship, I was going through a tough time. I was exhausted from juggling a newfound job and all my schoolwork. It was also almost winter, so I was feeling sick. This piece of good news made me spring back to life and motivated me to keep doing my best and grabbing opportunities that come my way.

3. Do you have plans for how you’ll use the scholarship funds—whether for tuition, books, or something else?

I’ve been using the funds to help pay for my tuition. It has definitely lightened my husband and I’s financial burden and allowed me to focus more on my studies and health instead of constantly worrying about money.

4. How do you think this scholarship will make a difference in your academic journey or personal life?

This scholarship has boosted my confidence and motivated me to join other opportunities offered by the Longo Faculty of Business, like the Longo Family Be Your Own Boss and Longo Incubator programs. I sometimes doubt my worth, especially when I’m alongside some of the brilliant students at Humber. But being thought of as worthy of this scholarship encouraged me to always take my chances and stop limiting myself.

5. Do you have any words of advice or encouragement for other students thinking about applying for scholarships?

Always take your chances. You might feel like some opportunities are too good for you or that you have no chance of succeeding anyway. But, indeed, you’ll never know unless you try. And whether you win or lose, you gain learnings and experiences that can help you with the next opportunity. The only chances you lose are the ones you don’t take.
