Meet the 2023 Longo Faculty of Business Special Award Winners
In addition to the Humber awards and scholarships, the Longo Faculty of Business provides special awards to students. To be eligible for these awards, full-time students must satisfy the minimum criteria of maintaining a cumulative GPA above 80% and submit an essay highlighting their academic accomplishments.

Dean’s Scholarship Winners
Presented to a returning student within the Longo Faculty of Business. The recipient must have achieved an 85 percent or higher grade point average and have displayed academic excellence within the classroom and demonstrate leadership in their program of study, the broader Humber community, and outside the college.
Himika Bhardwaj
1. How did you feel upon discovering that you had won?
When I received the news of my selection for this prestigious honour, I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. The support extended to me by Humber and the generous scholarship donors has touched me deeply.
2. In what ways do you anticipate these funds will impact you, your life, and your family?
As an international student, managing my expenses has been a constant concern. The ever-increasing rent and food costs have always weighed heavily on my mind. Until now, I have been solely responsible for financing these expenses. Winning this scholarship brings financial stability into my life, alleviating the burden and allowing me to wholeheartedly devote my time and energy to my education.
3. What are your plans for utilizing the scholarship funds?
One of the primary purposes I intend to utilize the scholarship funds is to mitigate the financial burden of tuition and fees for my educational program. By doing so, I can ease the financial strain not only on myself but also on my family. This support will grant me the peace of mind to focus on my studies and pursue my career ambitions.
Hazel Velasco
1. How did you feel upon discovering that you had won?
I was thrilled and felt sudden unbelievable happy feeling. This scholarship gave me new sparks of hope in the middle of hardships and challenges I am facing. I have been through exceedingly difficult situation since the very start of my journey as an international student and as a mother of three beautiful children at the same time. Usually when things get extra tough, the normal tendency is to just perform at minimum or worst just give up, because it would feel like there is nothing more you can do. Receiving the Longo Faculty of Business Dean’s Scholarship award gave me that validation that striving for excellence when it seems impossible is achievable if you are willing. I will forever be thankful to Humber College, the Longo Faculty of Business, our Dean, my professors, colleagues, college friends and my family who have been there supporting me in my journey as a Business Management student.
2. In what ways do you anticipate these funds will impact you, your life, and your family?
Thank you for this scholarship which has a very huge impact to lives of families like us who may have found ourselves hopeless at some point in life. This made me HOPE and BELIEVE that there is more to life, and that I am not alone in battles that I am facing. Aside from financial aspect, this scholarship helped me inculcate the value of perseverance to my kids, to inspire them to continue to be strong in achieving their dreams despite of hardships in life. I saw how happy and inspired they were when I shared the news to them. I believe that at that moment, I was able to give them one concrete example of some lessons in life that I am trying to teach them not only in words but in deeds.
3. What are your plans for utilizing the scholarship funds?
The scholarship that I got went straight to my tuition fee payment, and it helped me ease my financial burdens as a student and as a mother, and of course somehow was extended to my children as an additional provision for our needs as a family.
Frank Franklin Scholarship Winners
Presented to a full-time International Student within the Longo Faculty of Business who has displayed an outstanding commitment to their academic studies, extracurricular activities and who has shown perseverance in overcoming a barrier or challenge. Frank Franklin, former Director of International Programs who retired in 2005, has supported the achievements of many international Business students.
Aashiq Siddik
1. How did you feel upon discovering that you had won?
To be honest, the moment was a little surreal. I saw the email on the TTC and couldn't believe it. I thought it was probably spam and didn't want to click on it. I was so sure that it couldn't have been me who won it that I manually entered the scholarship site instead of clicking on the email just to make sure. Finding out that it was me who was a recipient, I was beyond thrilled and really happy that the hard work I'd put in resulted in a positive outcome.
2. In what ways do you anticipate these funds will impact you, your life, and your family?
I have had a lot of support from family and friends around me and winning this scholarship put a lot of joy in the hearts of everyone who is a part of my life, myself included. It took away from some of the financial pressure and made it easier for me to focus on my education knowing I was getting this support from Humber College.
3. What are your plans for utilizing the scholarship funds?
The funds went back to my education to cover my fees for the upcoming semester.
Amritjyot Gill
1. How did you feel upon discovering that you had won?
The news was surreal! I was very grateful when I discovered that I had won the award. It felt like my hard work over the course of my time in the program was rewarded. It was a moment of sheer joy and excitement.
2. In what ways do you anticipate these funds will impact you, your life, and your family?
These funds have helped me cover my tuition expenses. Such scholarships always reduce an individual's financial burden. For me, the reduction in financial stress means that I can focus more on my education and health. This scholarship allows me to reduce my hours working part-time. As a result, I am able to dedicate a lot more time to my activities and academics at school. The funds not only tangibly reduce my financial stress, but also serve as a morale boost. Such awards motivate me to not let my foot off the pedal, and keep pushing myself.
3. What are your plans for utilizing the scholarship funds?
I plan on utilizing 100% of these funds towards my tuition. Tuition expense is my biggest expense throughout my degree and this scholarship helps me reduce it. I give my education the utmost priority, and whatever helps me stay more focused is always a great help.
International Student Excellence Scholarship Winners
Presented to a returning International student within the Longo Faculty of Business who has achieved exceptionally high grades, has demonstrated a strong dedication to their studies, and commitment to Humber’s campus life and the wider community. Participation can be proven through activities as follows but not limited to: athletics, residence, peer mentoring, cultural activities, and event planning.

Angelia Claudia
1. How did you feel upon discovering that you had won?
I was speechless! This scholarship was something I never thought I would achieve, even after several times writing multiple essays for the scholarship panels. Another emotion I felt was a sense of revelation.
2. In what ways do you anticipate these funds will impact you, your life, and your family?
This fund is a financial support to pay my tuition fees and living expenses in Canada.
3. What are your plans for utilizing the scholarship funds?
I plan to use the funds to pay my tuition fees and have them as emergency funds in the future.
Yan Tung Wong
1. How did you feel upon discovering that you had won?
The moment that I received the notification, I was overwhelmed with joy. Embarking on my journey to Canada as an international student took a lot of courage, and this scholarship serves as a remarkable validation of my efforts and dedication.
2. In what ways do you anticipate these funds will impact you, your life, and your family?
As a student of Hospitality – Event Management, I am committed to being a devoted member of the field and have a strong sense of responsibility to make a contribution in such an exciting and inspiring industry. During my academic years and a part-time job, I always strive to exceed expectations and deliver exceptional results. The scholarship is undoubtedly a huge encouragement and recognition of the effort that I have demonstrated.
3. What are your plans for utilizing the scholarship funds?
As a passionate learner, I always look for improvement and constantly seize opportunities to enhance my soft and hard skills, and aspiring to become a well-rounded professional. With the scholarship funds, I would be able to invest in a wide variety of learning resources such as books, workshops, and courses. Moreover, it enables me to actively attend industry-related events which will provide valuable networking opportunities and further enrich my career.
