On October 26th, a collaboration unfolded as Chef Shonah Chalmers and a dedicated team of Culinary Federation Toronto members, Humber Chefs and Culinary graduates came together to prepare and serve breakfast to sixty-five seniors at the Peel settlement office.
The event, in partnership with the Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services, brought culinary talents and a sense of community to the forefront. The Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services is a non-profit organization that dedicates itself to aiding refugees, immigrants, and newcomers in their journey to integrate into Canadian society. Through their Resettlement Assistant Program (RAP), the organization has already offered invaluable support to nearly 300 refugees in 2023 and is on track to welcome 1,000 refugees by the year's end.
Chef Chalmers, reflecting the shared spirit of the team, conveyed, "Today's breakfast celebration was a way for us to share our culinary catering skills and a pleasant reception to immigrants, and refugees in Canada. Food transcends all cultural and socioeconomic borders and connects us all in a meaningful way. We were honoured to take the time, to show our love for cooking to some of the newest senior members of our country."
