Tourism – Travel Services Management Professors Dr. Ryan Snider and Dr. Culum Canally are leading a team of sustainable tourism experts from Humber College, the University of Guelph, and the University of Waterloo to develop a course that will prepare students to make innovative contributions to regenerate the distressed tourism and hospitality industry.
Dr. Snider, Dr. Canally, and their team were awarded $90,000 from eCampus Ontario’s Virtual Learning Strategy (VLS) to develop a modular, blended learning course that aims to help businesses in the distressed tourism and hospitality industry.
The course, Sustainable Tourism Future, will have synchronous and asynchronous components and leverage interactive virtual content, open educational resources, and interviews with industry leaders to introduce students to theoretical and practical innovations in sustainable tourism.
Once developed, the course will be offered at all three institutions. It will also be available for other Ontario post-secondary institutions to adopt as they prepare future tourism and hospitality professionals to apply creative solutions to current and future industry challenges.
