12 Sport Management graduates took advantage of a new pathway into the Bachelor of Commerce - Management Studies program at Humber College.

What does a three-year Advanced Diploma get you? In the case of a dozen students, it launched them into the 3rd year of a degree program in Management Studies, and they will now graduate with an advanced diploma and a degree credential within 5 years of study.

In the Sport Management Advanced Diploma program students develop a thorough knowledge of the structure and functionality of the Canadian sport industry including specific responsibilities and governance structure of organizations; rules and regulations governing sport; coaching standards; tournament hosting and scheduling; and sport sponsorship development. They also learn the practical, organizational, business, human resources and administrative skills needed to pursue a career in the industry or to further their education through the Management Studies degree program.

The Management Studies degree program prepares students to take on a variety of managerial roles in many different types of business. It is based on the seven traditional management functions (planning, organizing, staffing, directing, co-ordinating, reporting and budgeting) and gives students the necessary skills and knowledge to:

  • develop business strategies
  • analyze issues from various perspectives
  • apply classroom work to industry-connected projects
  • integrate transferable skills such as interpersonal interaction, communication and organization to all classroom and project work

Sports Management graduates pathway into Year 3 of the program where they will put all of their learning to work on a senior-level project, problem solving, evaluating strengths and limitations, gathering and synthesizing data, and making management-type business decisions.
