Canada Games Staff Provide an Interactive Learning Session for Students

In March, second-year Sport Management students were given the opportunity to spend the afternoon with 12 staff from Niagara 2021, the Host Society for the 2021 Canada Games in Niagara Region.

During this session, Niagara 2021 staff worked with the students to provide a deeper understanding of all of the components required to host a major multi-sport event. This session provided first-hand insight into the games sector as well as an invaluable networking opportunity. Students used this experience and insight to develop a bid to host the 2025 Ontario Parasport Games - a major assignment in their Sport Tourism course.

The Canada Summer Games will be held in the Niagara Region from August 6th - 21st, 2021. These Games will feature approximately 5,000 athletes and coaches in 18 sports from all 13 provinces and territories. The Canada Games are held every two years and alternate between summer and winter. They are the largest multi-sport event in the country and represent the pinnacle of interprovincial/territorial sport competition (Niagara 2021, n.d).
