US Consulate General Explores Public Service and Diplomatic Insights with Public Administration Students

The United States Consulate General (USCG) representative in Toronto's Public Affairs Office, Diane Del Rosario was welcomed as a guest lecturer for Professor Wendy Feldman's International Trend in Public Administration course at the Lakeshore campus on February 12th. During the session, Diane shared insights into her role in Toronto, her role as a US public servant, and her unconventional career trajectory. Drawing from her experiences in Washington, Diane shed light on her service in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, as well as the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, along with her previous foreign postings in Uzbekistan, Bahrain, and Indonesia.

Public Administration students had the opportunity to gain firsthand perspectives on global issues and diplomatic life as Diane discussed her experiences and the importance of civil servants' contributions to political decision-making processes, particularly in the lead-up to the United States elections in November 2024. Diane outlined the USCG's internship program for Canadian students, providing valuable insights into opportunities for cross-border engagement.

Guest lectures, such as Diane, play a key role in Professor Wendy Feldman's International Trends in Public Administration class, offering students exposure to diverse perspectives and career pathways. Future speakers will explore topics ranging from immigration and foreign affairs to agricultural policies and public policy consulting. These practitioners all highlight the comparative lens in their work and possible career paths for students.
