By Mihaela Pop, Project Management – Information Technology Program Coordinator
As part of the Capstone Course of the Project Management - Information Technology program, we strive to create meaningful, real-world learning experiences that bridge academic theory with industry practice. Last term, one of our student team members, Sumeet Sawhney, Vanessa Keall-Vejar, and Asma Rebai, had the unique opportunity to collaborate with EllisDon, a leader in construction and technology project delivery—under the mentorship of a seasoned Senior Project Manager, Olga Brailovski. The results were nothing short of exceptional.
Below is a reflection from Olga Brailovski, Senior Project Manager, Technology Project Office, EllisDon.
Working with Humber Polytechnic’s postgraduate Project Management students on their capstone project was a truly rewarding experience—both professionally and personally.
As a Senior Project Manager with the Technology Project Office at EllisDon, I had the opportunity to guide a team of students over a three-month period as they audited one of our live enterprise projects— the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Management & Accounting implementation. The students applied PMBOK principles, conducted a full audit, and presented thoughtful recommendations that reflected both diligence and a strong grasp of project management fundamentals.
Their work was so impactful that I shared the results and insights during our department-wide Annual General Meeting at EllisDon, where the presentation was very well received.
This collaboration allowed me to give back to the project management community, stay connected with emerging talent, and gain fresh perspectives from the next generation of professionals. It also gave EllisDon a meaningful way to support the development of future PM leaders.
