Looking to start your career as a consultant? This introductory consulting program will help you get started, as it is designed for individuals who are new to the field of consulting and want to develop the foundational skills needed to succeed in this dynamic profession. The program is uniquely designed to complement your area of expertise with the essential skills needed to become an effective consultant. Through a combination of practical instruction, case studies, real-world examples and expert insights, this program will guide students through key aspects of the consulting process including pricing, relationship management, budgeting and financial forecasting, and negotiation.

The program consists of five micro-credentials which you can complete separately, or you can stack them to achieve a Certificate of Completion. To complete the program in its entirety, you need to complete four of the mandatory micro-credentials which include:

  1. Introduction to Professional Consulting
  2. Relationship Management in Professional Consulting
  3. Essential Skills in Professional Consulting
  4. Project Management in Professional Consulting

To tailor the learning experience, students can choose one elective:

  1. Careers in Consulting – An exploration of various career paths within the consulting industry including the skills and strategies needed to advance in a consulting career.
  2. Running Your Own Consulting Business – A practical guide for those interested in entrepreneurship, focusing on how to start, grow and manage a successful consulting business.

By the end of the program, students will have the necessary techniques to manage consulting projects effectively, from initiation to completion, and be prepared to start an exciting role in the consulting field.

Professional Consulting Micro-credentials are OSAP Eligible

As a learner in this program, you may qualify for financial assistance through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) for Micro-credentials.

  • Select and complete the micro-credential OSAP application. You can only be funded for one course at a time through OSAP.
  • The deadline to apply for OSAP is the last day of your micro-credential course.
  • Enrol in and pay for the micro-credential course you wish to take (if you have not already done so). Please note that funding is sent directly to the learner by the National Student Loans Centre for Micro-Credentials. Payment for the course must be made at the time of registration.
  • Once the course has started, we will confirm your enrolment and OSAP funds will be released to your bank account.

PCMC 010 Introduction to Consulting
 

Consultants provide advice and services delivered independently and objectively to organizations in all sectors. Consultants help organizations solve problems, adapt and change, acquire new skills/learning, and address other needs.

This course introduces students to the growing field of professional consulting. Students will understand the five-stage consulting process and gain practical experience through an actual consulting project.

PCMC 011 Relationship Management
 
Relationship management can be the most important element of a consulting engagement. It is what establishes and maintains an engagement with its customers and business partners. Relationship management ranges from business solicitation to implementation to stakeholder engagement. This course coverers techniques to build a strong client-consultant relationship while building trust.

PCMC 012 Essential Skills for Professional Consulting
  Start Date: July 2025  
A good consultant must have a number of consulting skills to enable them to impress their clients, expand their professional network and further their career. This course will outline the essential skills needed for learners to master the field of consulting and gain the resources to become an effective consultant.

PCMC 013 Project Management for Consulting
 
Consultants require project management knowledge and experience to manage consulting engagements effectively and in a professional manner. Project management helps consultants to organize plans, execute and complete projects on time, within scope, and on budget. This course will provide the leaners with the fundamentals of project management.

PCMC 014 Starting and Operating a Consulting Practice
 
Consultants are specialists who provide advice and knowledge to clients for a fee. Consultants cover a wide range of industries or areas of expertise such as education, accounting, law, management, human resources and marketing. There are a wide range of consulting types. Some may require specific qualification and some have no specific requirements. Some industries require a degree or professional designation, such as accounting or legal consulting. For other types of consulting, a long and successful career running a business may be the main credential. This course provides an overview of how to assess your skillset and how to plan starting a consulting practice.

Gordon Aue, MSc, CPA, CRISC

Gordon Aue is a management consultant with over 25 years experience serving as an internal and external consultant. In addition to his consulting skills, Gordon has both specialized knowledge based on his experience in Management, I&IT, Finance, Internal Audit and Operations. He has been deeply involved in many engagements assessing, designing and implementing security, financial controls and operating processes in the Financial Sector, Telecommunications, Utilities and Healthcare industries.

Gordon has led global teams to analyze needs, to develop and deliver consistent quality engagement in Local and Global Operations while ensuring local and global compliance. He has well developed communication, presentation and facilitation skills with ability to deliver a clear, concise and compelling message at all levels.

Gordon has lectured at a number of universities and colleges on a number of subjects. He is a relationship builder who partners effectively internally and externally to create an environment conducive to “getting things done”. He has a reputation as a “go to person” who solves problems and deals effectively with issues. He is an innovator and out of the box thinker with a strong entrepreneur/intrapreneurial spirit and flair.

Gordon possesses a B.A. in Psychology, a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Computer Science, and is a Chartered Professional Accountant, a Certified Management Accountant and Certified in Risk and Information System Control.
