Professional Accounting Practice graduate Melissa Pettau achieved the Honour Roll on the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Canada Common Final Examination (CFE).
"I am incredibly proud to have achieved Honour Roll on the CFE," says Melissa. "I was thrilled to learn that I passed, let alone to be in the top 1% of writers nationally. It feels wonderful to know that my hard work paid off." Melissa currently works as an audit senior at Deloitte, where she continued her accounting journey by taking the Professional Education Program (PEP) courses offered by the CPA and supported by a study program at work.
"The program I took at Humber gave me the fundamentals I needed to succeed in both my job and my CPA studies," she says. "I received a combination of academic knowledge, practice writing accounting cases, and advice on possible career paths that have served me well since graduation. In addition to the preparation built into the curriculum, many people had a significant impact on my journey too. The instructors inspired and supported all of us through the most difficult moments, and did their best to make the transition to virtual learning in the spring as painless as possible. Several classmates I met in the program have been friends and study partners throughout the stresses of beginning new jobs and the process of preparing for the CFE. I would recommend the program to anyone who has decided that they want to study accounting and pursue the CPA designation."
Melissa plans to achieve her CPA designation in the summer after completing her remaining months of practical experience. "I enjoy my job, and would like to continue to grow as an auditor, while also hoping to one day mentor or teach aspiring accountants."
