During the Fall semester, International Development students organized an insightful Global Speaker Series, inviting a lineup of experts to address critical topics shaping the field.

November 5
The series launched with a panel from Humber’s International Development Institute, featuring alumni Juanita Perez (Class of ’22), Vidushi Sanghadia (Class of ’22), and Chitra Purushothaman. The trio shared valuable insights into managing international projects, collaborating with global partners, and the role of higher education in building capacity in Canada and internationally.

November 12
Students welcomed a delegation from My Oral Village, including a visiting gender specialist from Pakistan. The session delved into issues of gender inequity in rural communities, highlighting the specialist’s work empowering women through financial literacy and entrepreneurship initiatives.

November 26
The day featured a double-header of distinguished guests. The morning session hosted Jamie Cross (Class of ’18) and Michelle Adams (Class of ’18) from GlobalMedic, a humanitarian organization renowned for optimizing efficiency in delivering emergency relief to populations at minimum costs. They engaged students in a discussion about the complexities of logistical and operational challenges faced during disaster response efforts.

In the afternoon, Kimberly Gibbons, Chair of the International Development Program Advisory Committee (PAC) and Executive Director of the Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC) led a dialogue on the significance of global citizenship within the International Development sector.

The Global Speaker Series provided students with invaluable opportunities to connect theory with real-world practice, fostering dialogue on critical issues and inspiring the next generation of international development professionals.
