This fall, students from the International Development graduate certificate program had the privilege of participating in Xlerate Day Toronto 2023, joining hundreds of the country’s best nonprofit marketers and fundraisers at the MaRS Discovery District.

Srishti Ratnu, one of the attending students, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "I loved every moment of Xlerate Toronto 2023! It was an extraordinary two days of learning and networking. I had the incredible opportunity to learn from industry experts and legends, make meaningful connections with passionate individuals in the fundraising and development field, and immerse myself in a world of innovation and inspiration."

The event featured renowned speakers such as Janine Manning discussing the Abundance mindset, Claire Kerr on the 'Marketing Rule of 7,' and an enlightening AI panel led by George Irish, featuring Anil Kanji and Erik Rubadeau. Keynote speaker Jesse Brown from Canadaland and a powerful concluding session by Paul Taylor added to the insightful lineup.

Conference co-organizer Sheetal Puri, from the Wikimedia Foundation, emphasized the importance of connecting the next generation of business students with opportunities in the nonprofit sector. She stated, "To connect the next generation of business students with opportunities to participate in the nonprofit sector is exciting. Getting a foundation not just in the positive impact of the non-profit sector but the very substantial work needed to improve the sector to serve Canadians for the future is important for the next generation of leaders. We shared ideas and networks and I am so glad students from Humber could attend!"

Pooja Mathur, a newcomer to Canada, highlighted the significance of events like Xlerate, stating, "As a newcomer to Canada, I know many of my peers and colleagues share the same desire - to connect with like-minded individuals whom we can collaborate with, engage in meaningful conversations, and learn from. Xlerate provided a unique and inclusive space where professionals from the non-profit sector came together to discuss their challenges, successes, anecdotes, and lessons in a collaborative and participatory manner."

The students expressed their gratitude to Xlerate, Sheetal Puri, and all the organizers for providing this engaging and enriching experience.
