Graduate Takes a Hands-On Approach to International Development

In a time marked by the prevalence of remote work and virtual communication, Carolyn Nicole's decision to embark on a journey to Uganda for her placement experience stands as a testament to her commitment to international development.

Having completed her coursework for the International Development (ID) graduate certificate program in June 2023, Carolyn chose to relocate to Kampala, Uganda, where she assumed a role within the organization Shelter and Settlement Alternatives. This endeavour was an integral component of her graduate certificate program, undertaken in collaboration with Rooftops Canada in Toronto.

Carolyn’s role is to assist the Ugandan NGO with their communications and social media presence. Her dedication to this task has not only positioned her as an asset to the organization but has also afforded her an education on the housing shortages in Uganda — a predicament resonant with the housing challenges faced in Toronto.

Carolyn's journey demonstrates the calibre of Humber's International Development graduates who are prepared to work with agencies that support social change both in Canada and on a global scale.
