The week of February 5th - 9th was a busy one for International Development students and alumni as Canada celebrated International Development Week.

Kicking off the week on February 5th, Humber welcomed the Honorable Ahmed Hussen, Canada's Federal Minister for International Development, for an insightful event centred around the complex themes of localization and partnerships.

In collaboration with industry partner, International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF), Humber organized a panel discussion featuring industry experts including; Marlen Mondaca from Canadian Feed the Children, Peter Timmerman from CODE, Alison Roadberg from YCI, and Nabil Ali, an alumnus from the class of 2015 representing IDRF. The dialogue was skillfully moderated by Bill Sparks, Professor Emeritus of Humber's International Development programs.

At the career fair event, students were able to engage with industry professionals who were actively recruiting for internships with IDRF, World Vision, Rooftops Canada, Global Medic, Youth Challenge International, Ontario Council for International Cooperation and Humber’s own International Development Institute. Many students expressed enthusiasm at the sight of Humber graduates returning as employers eager to hire their successors.

Tuesday saw a gathering of Humber International Development alumni, including Michael Girard ‘14, Dominique Laforest ‘17, Clarisse Estebar ‘19, Dil Rajrathana ’22, and Reet Malhotra ’23. This occasion offered current students a chance to network with both seasoned professionals and recent graduates, exchanging insights on topics ranging from securing paid internships to leveraging international work experience in the Canadian job market.

Wrapping up the week was an interactive workshop delving into the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) facilitated by members of Humber’s International Development Institute. Graduate certificate students lent their expertise as moderators and note-takers, further expanding their industry connections through active participation in this event.
