Alumni Share Success Stories Working With Operation Smile
During lockdown, Humber International Development Postgrad students, Kaitlin Waters and Mary Periera were not sure about what the future held. When Mark Climie-Elliot, Chief Smile Officer at Operation Smile gave a virtual presentation in their Fundraising and Communications class it was clear that there was a real need in the nonprofit sector to continue to meet the demand for services, and for donor relations to keep funding coming in for critical work. Mark shared his experience working for an International donor-funded agency, how they pivoted, and how they were keeping their donors inspired to give to support their mission: to "create solutions that deliver safe surgery to people where it's needed most."
This year Katlin and Mary joined Mark to present to our 2022/2023 class, as they are both now fully employed at Operation Smile! Their sage advice for current students included taking advantage of the networking opportunities that are at Humber. The postgrad program provides an amazing network of alumni and professionals working in the field, and you might be closer to that job opportunity than you think!
