A diverse group of students in the Bachelor of Commerce - International Business program, including Artem Melnikov, Felipe Ortiz Huerta, Santiago Pinzon Aldana, Dariia Stupak, and Juliana Villamizar, joined Professor and Program Co-ordinator Pierre-Pascal Gendron in attending the C.D. Howe Institute-sponsored Regent Debate at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on December 6th.

The spirited debate on Canada’s immigration levels pitted two teams of well-known personalities. On the side of the debate’s motion included: Mitzie Hunter, former Ontario Cabinet Minister and MPP, and Jason Kenney, Former Premier of Alberta. Against the debate’s motion included: Naheed Nemshi, Former Mayor of Calgary, and John Tory, former Mayor of Toronto. The event featured opportunities to network with members of the GTA’s business community and meet the speakers afterwards.

Regent Debates feature pre-eminent thought leaders debating on either the affirmative side or the negative side of a selected proposition that falls within the scope of the debate series. The C.D. Howe Institute is an independent research institute and non-partisan think tank. Professor Gendron has authored several publications for the institute.
