International Business Program Coordinator and Professor Pierre-Pascal Gendron published a chapter on Value-Added Taxes in a new IMF book entitled Taxation in the Middle East and North Africa: Prospects and possibilities.

The book provides a handbook of tax systems across 21 countries in the region. Pierre-Pascal’s chapter, co-authored with Christophe Waerzeggers (Deputy Division Chief, Tax Policy, Fiscal Affairs Department, IMF), focuses on consumption taxes—especially the value-added tax (VAT)—and examine their history, design, revenue yield, efficiency, and prospects for reform.

Pierre-Pascal regularly brings examples to students in his classes. They often come from the thorny domestic and international tax policy problems he encounters in his technical assistance work. He has been a member of the Expert Roster of the Fiscal Affairs Department of the IMF since 2007. In that role, he has participated in over 35 technical assistance missions throughout the world for the IMF, World Bank, and other organizations.
